An email address is often part of an account that provides other features. As such, an email account is categorised under Internet Accounts.
To add an internet account, you’ll find Internet Accounts in System Preferences, where you can your account credentials.
Accounts added here can then be accessed using Apple’s suite of internet account apps: Mail, Contacts, Calendar and Notes apps.
